Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The former head of state was found guilty of plotting a military coup in September and given more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments came to light.

This involved trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said data from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His child, his son Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I urge you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could offer prayers for his well-being and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of his "relocation to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a history of planning to request asylum through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The court filing emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the federal district, the capital city, is situated around 8 miles from the former president's residence.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist United States President Trump, leading him to impose a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

He is being kept in a Federal Police station in the capital and will have a imprisonment assessment on Sunday.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on the previous day that the his legal team asked the Top Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that the former president be allowed to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he needed frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other illnesses.

Background on Conviction

Bolsonaro was found guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the national vote to his political opponent, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a plan which involved plans to murder Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was prevented because it failed to get the backing of the military leaders. His successor was inaugurated without incident on January 1st, 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, many his backers invaded and destroyed public facilities in the national capital, BrasĂlia.

The security forces intervened and around 1,500 people were detained.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been incited by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the country's army to step in, reestablish control and bring him back to power.

At the period, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also prohibited from running for public office until twenty-sixty - eight years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the court case a "witch hunt and said it was intended to stop him competing in the next presidential race.
